'A shame it can't continue'

After serving customers for nearly 43 years, The Pancake House closed its doors for good on Sunday.

Customers from all over showed up to have the last bite of its famous plate-sized cinnamon rolls and delicious potatoes.

After serving customers for nearly two decades, owners George and Bonnie Bertram decided that it was time to retire.

"Well, because we were getting up in the years and we've worked really hard, and we wanted to get out and do the things that we wanted to do before we cant," George said.

For four years, the Bertrams hoped they would be able to sell the restaurant and find someone new to take over, but the sale of the restaurant fell through.

They were left with no choice but to close the restaurant and sell the building.

"It's a shame that it can't continue as a restaurant, but it is what it is," George said. "We took the offer cause it's been for sale for four years and haven't gotten but one offer that fell through."

Some customers have been coming for generations to dine at The Pancake House, and may say they were sad to see it go.

"I just have so many memories with so many families here. Like at any given point, we've come with siblings, cousins, grandparents, parents. Yeah, just all the memories. It's gonna look different, it's gonna feel different cause we will keep coming to McCall, but this will be sad," said long-time customer Maria Scott.

It's a bittersweet moment for the Bertrams as well. They say they will miss all of their loyal customers most of all.

"Just thank everybody for forty-one years of patronage and hope to see them around," George said.
