Campgrounds typically open for steelhead fishing season closed due to snow

Two popular campgrounds in the Sawtooth National Recreation area typically opened up for steelhead fishing season are closed due to too much snow.

The Sawtooth National Forest said Tuesday that Mormon Bend and Salmon River are completely under snow (as evidenced by the photo above).

"Our employees have looked at the best way to open them and have determined that we will just need to wait for the snow to melt," officials said. "As soon as it is practical and we can get our equipment into the site, we will provide access to the campgrounds."

Folks heading to the area for fishing can stay at Mountain Village, Lower Stanley Motel and the Stanley Town Square. There are also additional campgrounds along the upper Salmon River.
