Emma Busse stepped into the audion of American Idol with her rendition of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” Unimpressed, the judges then said that her performance was far too theatrical — with Katy Perry even encouraging her to “shake” and “slap” the Broadway out of her.
However, the panel also saw potential in her. Thus, after coaching her through a rendition of “Happy Birthday,” they gave her the golden ticket. And the judges didn’t regret this decision as she sang Adele’s “Chasing Pavements” on the Showstopping round.
“That’s real stuff,” said Luke Bryan. “That’s Top 10 material,” added Perry before sending her to the top 26.
Amazing the judges once again, Emma then presented her rendition of Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” to be on the top 13 alongside Elise Kristine, Oliver Steele, Matt Wilson, Kaeyra, Pjae, Zachariah Smith, Mariah Faith, Warren Peay, Nailyah Serenity, Haven Madison, Lucy Love Text, and Iam Tongi Text.
