Kamaru Usman is looking to bounce back from his title loss against Leon Edwards at UFC 286. He was on his way to winning a decision against Edwards when they fought at UFC 278. He will look to assert the same dominance before he gets knocked out. Usman is training extensively for the trilogy bout against Edwards.
Throughout his career, Usman has trained in various gyms with several coaches. He started training under Henri Hooft at the Kill Cliff FC (formerly known as Sanford MMA and Hard Knocks 365). Since then, he has left to work under different coaches to improve his striking.

In 2020, Kamaru Usman left his long-time gym and guidance of Henri Hooft to train under striking coach Trevor Whitman. Wittman has been deemed influential for developing the striking talent of Justin Gaethje and Rose Namajunas. The gym is situated in Colorado state.
Trevor Wittman owns ONX Sports. However, it is not a proper MMA gym like ATT or AKA. Wittman only trains selected fighters for their fight preparation, like Justin Gaethje, Kamaru Usman, and Rose Namajunas.
When Usman trained under Henri Hooft, he trained with Michael Chandler and Gilbert Burns. UFC Lightweight contender Michael Chandler has been seen grappling with Usman on the mats. On the other hand, Burns has reportedly sparred with Usman at least 300 times.
Training with Gilbert Burns and seeing him rise as a challenger in the Welterweight division led Usman to leave the gym to work under Trevor Whitman. Burns and Usman collided at UFC 258, where Usman stopped Burns in the third round. In 2021, many MMA news media outlets had Kamaru Usman as the Fighter of the Year after starting to work under Trevor Whitman.

Gaethje has been helping Usman train for his fights since he joined Trevor Whitman. They share similar agents in Ali Abdelaziz and are known to be good friends outside of training. Gaethje and Usman are known to spar harder during their training sessions and remain training partners even to this day.
