Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - How to Enable Cheats

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is objectively a hard game. As opposed to its predecessor, Warband, this game will not allow you to feel like a god on the battlefield.

Bannerlord is also relatively well-optimized, which means that if you want to get rich or become a king, you may need to put in many, many hours.

This is why, at least to test things out or see the hidden parts of the game that take hundreds of hours, you need to use cheats and increase your progress a bit.

Unfortunately, you can’t just start using cheats whenever you want while playing. Here is what you need to do to enable cheats in Bannerlord and explore the unknown depths of the game.

Enable Cheats in Bannerlord

Bannerlord has a lot of cheats you can use. However, if you haven’t enabled them, no matter how much you try, they won’t work.

There are two ways to enable cheats in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, and both are relatively straightforward:

  • Enable from the cheat console
  • Change a number in the configuration text file

Using the Cheat Console

This method is the simplest, all you need to do is:

  • Start the game.
  • Load or start a new playthrough.
  • Press “Alt” + “~” on your keyboard.
  • Write “config.cheat_mode 1“ in the console and press Enter.
  • And then you’re done! You have enabled cheats in Bannerlord. This works really well since you don’t have to restart the game or do anything else afterward.

If you want to disable cheats, all you need to do is follow the steps again and write “config.cheat_mode 0“ at the end in the console.

Now you can just close the console by pressing the X button in its top right corner and start using the basic cheats such as “Ctrl” + “X” or “Ctrl” + “F4” from Warband.

If, for some reason, this method does not work for you, there is also something you can do that will work 100%:

    Changing the engine_config.txt File

Even though using the console should work 99% of the time, you can also use this foolproof way to enable cheats in Mount and Blade 2.

Here is how you can enable cheats in Bannerlord through the game’s files:

  • Head over to “\Documents\Mount and Blade II Bannerlord\”.
  • Open the engine_config.txt file in there.
  • Press “Ctrl” + “F” and search “cheat_mode” and find “cheat_mode = 0”.
  • Change 0 to 1 and save and exit the file.
  • Now you can open the game, and all of the basic, old-school Mount and Blade: Warband cheats will work in Bannerlord as well.

That’s everything you need to know about how to enable cheats in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord!
