The American golfer Keegan Bradley showed his emotional side with the fans when he shared a heart-melting moment with his better half after winning his first US PGA Tour title in four years as he won Zozo Championship on Sunday.
After back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes, the 36-year-old jumped into the lead one shot ahead of fellow American Rickie Fowler and finally held his nerve to end his trophy drought and lift the Championship.
Bradley was overwhelmed after the fantastic win and shared the emotional moment with his wife, Jillian Stacey over the phone call. In a short but sweet conversation – the golfer’s wife said that she along with other friends and family members was following the Championship closely.
Keegan Bradley was literally in tears while speaking as he said: “I can’t hold it together.” Jillian Stacey was emotional and delighted at the same time and praised the golfer’s hard work over the years. “You’ve earned every single second of this. You’ve worked so hard. I’m so proud of you.” she said over a telephone conversation.
In September 2018, the 36-year-old won the BMW Championship in Philadelphia for his first US PGA Tour title.
“I’ve really put a lot of work in this off-season and this is what I want to do — I want to win tournaments, I want to play in Ryder Cups and I want to be in the conversation,” said Keegan Bradley. “This is a good start,” he added.
On the other hand, defending champion Hideki Matsuyama had a tournament to forget as he finished with a 71 to finish three under in a tie for 40th.
“I was looking to win the title and nothing else, so there’s nothing I can really take from this week — it’s disappointing,” he said.
However, Matsuyama did give his fans some glimmer of hope with a closing birdie on the 18th hole. “I thought ‘finally, my touch and line have come together as I wanted them to’. “There were a lot of people in the gallery there so I’m glad I was able to score a birdie for them.”
