What Religion Is Jamie Lynn Spears?

Best known for her main role on Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 in the early ‘00s, Spears has been somewhat public about her religious views in the past.

Jamie appears to be Christian, as she has referenced God multiple times. Her famous sister Britney has opened up about her own faith, stating that she was born and raised Baptist which is part of Christianity. Since Britney and Jamie grew up together, Jamie was also most likely raised Baptist and continues to follow Christianity.

Thanking God After Her Daughter’s Tragic Accident

It came as a shock to the world when Jamie announced she was pregnant in 2007 when she was just 16 years old. The father was her then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge, and the couple engaged in 2008.

She gave birth to Maddie Briann Aldridge in June 2008, and she and Aldridge later called it quits in 2009 and again in 2010.

9 years after Maddie was born, she was unfortunately involved in a horrific accident.

She was driving an ATV around their property when it suddenly flipped over and landed in a pond, which trapped her underneath the water.

Jamie, alongside her parents, tried to save her while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Once they came, she was taken to a hospital by helicopter and was declared in a critical condition.

Maddie thankfully survived the incident, after fears that she would have brain damage or other long term medical troubles.

Jamie shared her Christian devotion in a long Instagram post on her 26th birthday. Part of the caption said:

“I’m not one to preach, and I’m no priest, but God’s timing is no coincidence,” Jamie wrote. “I hate seeing, much less, reading someone’s long post, but here I go: Music, and my career [has] always been a big passion in my life, as well as to create a future that my family could be proud of.

She continued, “I have been working on my music for almost a decade now, and I have had many great successes as an artist/writer, but I was always wondering, how long I would have to WAIT for my big break? Wow, did God put me in my place.”

Another post was shared to her Instagram declaring her thanks to God once again:

“We were shown God’s grace, and we still feel undeserving of His mercy. I’ll never stop thanking each of you for your prayers, because we recognize the miracle it created. We are beyond blessed, and we will NEVER forget y’all, and God’s unbelievable mercy #godisgood”

Jamie also expressed her profound thanks to the paramedics who saved Maddie’s life, this time in a post to Twitter:

“The hardest milestone me and my family have ever faced was almost losing our beautiful Maddie, but thanks to God and the two angels in this picture we were able to celebrate Maddie turning 9 years old together. This became a true miracle, and we are forever grateful”

In 2020, Spears referenced her faith again in an Instagram post, this time in relation to a podcast she had done with Maria Menounos.

Part of the description read:

“Well We started off talking about #SWEETMAGNOLIAS and how family, community, and faith are the common themes throughout the whole show, which naturally led to me sharing a brief bit about the worst day of me and my family’s life, and how our family, community, and faith is also what got us through those times.”

Menounos commented back to Spears, stating, “What a great reminder of faith and healing. We really are better together. ? thank you Jamie always here for you!”

Other Evidence of Her Faith

In 2017, the same year that Maddie recovered from the accident, Spears shared several photos of her family attending church for the holidays.

Since her days on Zoey 101, Spears halted her career, before returning in 2013 to appear as herself on some talk shows and game show Double Dare.

Though her first big comeback to the small screen was on Sweet Magnolias – a series released on Netflix in 2020.

While Spears was of course playing a character, the show heavily references Christianity, where characters go to church and pray regularly. Spears plays Noreen Fitzgibbons, and she revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight how excited she was for the role:
